Sky win rights for World Tens Series
Sky TV have acquired rights in the UK and Ireland to the inaugural World Tens Series rugby union competition.
Sky’s deal is the first that World Tens Series has confirmed although further announcements in other territories will follow, it said.
The competition will take place in Bermuda from 24 October to 7 November. It sees international players from the rugby 7s and rugby 15s formats of the sport competing for global franchises in a 10-a-side competition.
The inaugural edition will feature eight teams, with the competition to be expanded to 16 teams for next year’s tournament. The rights-holder also envisages the World Series to cover 12 locations around the world from 2021.
Sky is the incumbent rights-holder in the UK to the World Rugby Sevens Series.
