Falcons release special kit for the Big One

The new kit will be for the 'The Big One' at St James Park on March 23rd, raising money for the My Name'5 Doddie Fund.

The shirt emblazoned with tartan sleeves and black and white stripes is in honour of former Falcons player Doddie Weir and Newcastle United. The shirt will be worn in the Falcons game against Sale Sharks in the Gallagher Premiership.

The money raised is to help research into Motor Neurone Disease, which the Newcastle Falcons and Scotland legend has been diagnosed with.

From each shirt sold a donation will be given directly to the foundation, who will also be collecting on the day around St James’ Park.

Weir said: “Newcastle Falcons and their supporters were so generous in their backing of last season’s shirt which raised a significant sum of money, and I’m honoured that the club have decided to repeat the initiative.

“The money will certainly be put to good use as we look to drive awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and to improve the prospects for those of us who have been diagnosed, and it’s outstanding to see a bit of tartan alongside the famous black and white stripes!

“Newcastle will always have a special place in my heart and it’s great to see the Falcons making strides with events like The Big One at St James’ Park. Attracting more than 30,000 supporters to last season’s game was an incredible effort, and it would be great to see similar or even greater numbers there again on March 23.”

The limited edition jersey sold out in less then 24 hours last year with this years edition available at Kingston Park club shop and available to purchase online.

Adult sizes (S-6XL) are priced £49.99, with junior sizes (6-16) priced £39.99.
