Travel restrictions are in place for South Africa following the discovery of the Omicron variant in the country and neighbouring nations.

Cardiff had been due to return to the UK on Sunday but their final round of testing prior to travel returned two positive cases, meaning the squad and staff must isolate at their hotel.

A statement from the club on Sunday stated, 'Cardiff Rugby have been unable to depart South Africa following two positive cases of Covid-19, one of which is suspected to be the new variant Omicron.'

'As a consequence of one of these results suspected of being Omicron, the entire travelling party have returned to their hotel to isolate.'

'Cardiff Rugby continue to work with the South African Rugby Union, the Welsh Rugby Union and public health authorities both at home and abroad to decide the next course of action.'

Irish side Munster are also in isolation following a positive test result, whilst Scarlets were able to return to the UK early on Monday morning, but must now stay in a quarantine hotel in Belfast.
